About Akuaba Global
Ghanaian Soul & Fusion band blending Afro-Fusion, Highlife, Jazz and inspirational sounds. Inspired by Africa, made for the world.
Before you see Ghana, you can hear it. That is Akuaba Global - an eight-member Ghanaian band of two vocalists and six musicians, playing Afro-Fusion and Highlife that carries the spirit of the country in its rhythm.
About Akuaba Global
Akuaba Global is more than a band; it is a musical family. Its members have performed together for over a decade, building a bond forged through countless live shows. Before launching Akuaba Global as an original music project, they performed as Classic Band GH, a respected Ghanaian cover band known for exceptional interpretations of African and international classics at concerts, festivals, corporate events and private functions.
The name Akuaba carries deep cultural significance. Among the Akan people of Ghana, particularly the Asante and Fante, an Akuaba is a traditional wooden fertility figure whose name means “Akua's child.” It symbolizes beauty, hope, blessings, prosperity, fertility and the continuation of life. Inspired by this symbolism, Akuaba Global uses music as a vessel for growth, healing, creativity and cultural preservation.
Story and Sound
After years of performing cover music and refining their collective sound, the group established Akuaba Global to showcase its own artistic voice. Today, the band has a catalogue of more than 30 original songs reflecting diverse influences, lived experiences and a commitment to honest storytelling.
Rooted in Ghanaian heritage and inspired by sounds from around the world, Akuaba Global blends Global Soul, Afro-Fusion, Jazz, Highlife, World Music and Inspirational Music. Rich harmonies, dynamic instrumentation and meaningful messages shape performances that celebrate identity, humanity, resilience and connection.
The band's songs explore universal stories of love, friendship, forgiveness, grief, community, kindness and the wisdom of elders. Alongside these reflective themes are playful songs that invite audiences to dance, enjoy traditional games and keep moving through life.
Akuaba Global's repertoire also carries music from Cameroon written by the late Emmanuel Honoré Joe Djou, who shared a profound musical connection with the band members. His songs remain woven into the band's sound and carry his spirit forward each time they are performed.
The Band
The collective's six male and two female members bring together vocals, percussion, bass, drums, keyboards, guitars, horns and traditional African instrumentation. Their long-standing chemistry creates captivating live performances filled with soul, energy, joy and celebration.
Musical Influences
The band's sound draws inspiration from African and global music pioneers including Richard Bona, Angélique Kidjo, Osibisa, Erykah Badu and Ghanaian highlife legend Sami Odoh, while remaining firmly rooted in African musical traditions and contemporary global sounds.
Mission
Akuaba Global sees its music as a cultural ambassador for Ghana and its people. Through music, the band aims to inspire, heal and unite audiences while celebrating cultural identity and encouraging positive transformation. For listeners who have never set foot in Africa, the music offers a doorway into the rhythm, warmth and spirit of Ghana - the gateway to Africa.
